Recently after the release of his book, “The complete book of Sex Education ”, the Thatmate team got an opportunity to interview Dr Rajan Bhonsle. Dr. Bhonsle has been working in the field of sex education for the past 30 years which makes his contribution and experience unparalleled in every possible way. Whether it is the 1200 articles he’s written or the numerous books he’s published or the several talks he’s given, every form of his work proves to an inspiration to us.
When asked about “The complete book of Sex Education”, Dr. Bhonsle told us about how different it is from other works of this kind. Firstly, this book is a child of his long experience of 30 years rather than being just a compilation of gathered information.
Mrs. Minnu Bhonsle also joined him in writing this book which offers us a unique combination of both male and female perspectives on a crucial subject like this one. As the name suggests “The complete book of Sex Education” is not just a reference book but will provide a reader of absolutely any age group, in any role, the complete guidance on this topic.
Like he said, the internet has always been a source of information yet every piece of information that is up there is not guaranteed to be correct enough. He believes that the author’s responsibility plays a very important role. That’s where books and newspapers come into picture. While talking to him about reaching out to the common people, he told us how essential his columns have been. The door to door circulation of newspapers definitely helps in spreading awareness on a larger scale.
He believes that the first and foremost sex educators in a child’s life are his parents. Thus when asked in a debate on television if schools should start sex education, he said a surprising ‘no’ only because parents are rather preferred sex educators. The environment provided at home can be much more conducive for these kinds of discussions.
One of the problems faced by our society in the field of sex education is the lack of sex educators. To cater to this need Dr. Bhonsle has been conducting workshops which provide training to teach this subject. He has thus been training a lot of students who are actively working and offering their contribution.
